Brite Winter 2018 embraces chilly, rainy weather in its ninth year
As I drove through the rainy streets of Cleveland on a very late Saturday night, February 24, 2018, I was not sure I should attempt to attend the last hours of Brite Winter 2018 (@Britewinter - #Brite18). I had been invited by the Communications Department of the Cleveland Museum of Art (@ClevelandArt) to attend the preview for Eyewitness Views earlier that evening. Thus, I had already had a very fun and very full evening. (Learn more in my blog post: Cleveland Museum of Art's "Eyewitness Views: Making History in Eighteenth-Century Europe")
It was very late, very dark, and raining, but since I have greatly enjoyed attending Brite Winter for years, since it was a small event in 2011, I decided to see how the event's evening ended. It ended up being the best decision I could have made!
As I parked my car, I saw the bright lights of Brite Winter transforming the underbelly of the Main Avenue Bridge to a festive area full of music and fun! It was great to be with all these people, dancing and having fun into the late evening.
Here are the photos and videos I took at the event:

It was great to see Gerald King III of Ultimate Team-Up (@UltimateTeamup) again. It was great talking to him and hearing about his day at Brite Winter, where he engaged attendees with Ultimate Team-Up games.
I met Gerald last year at Ingenuity Cleveland (@Ingenuityfest), when my sons staffed the Ultimate Team-Up booth and demonstrated their Permutations (@PermutationGame) tabletop game. See tweet of my sons at the Ultimate Team-Up booth in my blog post: Metamorphosis: IngenuityFest Cleveland 2017.
I always love seeing the artwork created live at events by Cleveland's Rust Belt Monster Collective (@RustBeltMonster). Due to the large crowds the past three years at Brite Winter, I have not been able to see Rust Belt Monster Collective's work firsthand, since they were located on the upper floor of the Music Box Supper Club (@MusicBoxCLE). This year, they were next to the dance floor at Mulberry's, and I really enjoyed seeing their work up close.
In addition to past Brite Winter events, I have enjoyed the Rust Belt Monster Collective at NEOCycle (@NEOCycleCLE - #NEOCycle) and Ingenuity Cleveland (@Ingenuityfest) events. See photos in my blog posts that mention Rust Belt Monster Collective here.
Here is photo collage of Rust Belt Monster Collective's work -- be sure to view the full mural in the Flickr photo slideshow above.
When I arrived at the event, I saw Emily Appelbaum, the artistic director of Ingenuity Cleveland (@Ingenuityfest), wearing a Brite Winter Team uniform. It was great to talk to her, and to ask her to pass on my congratulations on the success of Brite Winter to the whole team. I told her I was very impressed with the high energy level of the late-night Brite Winter activities. In addition to Emily's work for Ingenuity Cleveland, I learned that she is also on the Brite Winter staff as art director.
Ingenuity Cleveland weekend is one of my favorite events in Cleveland -- I normally live there for the full weekend -- so it was good to see that Ingenuity Cleveland is now one of the partners of Brite Winter. See my many Ingenuity Cleveland blog posts to learn how IngenuityFest is the perfect marriage of my interests in arts and technology.
Finally, a BIG thank-you shout-out to the Brite Winter sponsors and partners. Be sure to take a look at these images of sponsors and partners. There are many very impressive organizations involved.

Thank you and congratulations to the Brite Winter organizers. I look forward to attending this event every year.
Personal note about this Brite Winter 2018 - #Brite18 blog post: Due to a couple of family emergencies that consumed the end of February and all of March 2018, I delayed publishing this post. Despite the belated nature of this post, I still wanted to publish it to express how impressed I am with the Brite Winter organizers.
