Better World Day is an annual conference focused on the latest technology and making the world a better place.

Founded in 2016, Todd Packer and Marc Majers started Better World Day to arm non-profits, educators, students, and technologists with the knowledge to continue their fight for a better world. Located in Cleveland, Ohio the event has provided education on innovative trends such as accessibility, AI, XR, blockchain, user experience, and big data.

Better World Day is brought to you by Leading Hands Through Technology and Workmen’s Circle Educational Center of Ohio.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, I was scheduled to be out of town on a backpacking trip that was unfortunately canceled. As that adventure opportunity closed, I was fortunate that another opportunity was presented to me as I was invited to attend the Eighth Annual Better World Day -- Cultivating Gamification for a Better World 2024 -- that took place at Hyland - Building #3 in Westlake.

Looking back at past years in my calendar, I see this is the fifth year I have attended this event. You can learn more about these past events by seeing my 2019 Blockchain blog post here, and seeing videos from online events that I attended with the following dates/topics: 10/15/2020 Social Media and 10/19/2023 AI/XR. I also attended online the 10/20/2022 Metaverse, but it does not have a video. (There is also a video for 10/21/21 Leadership/Culture, but I missed that event.) I added these direct links to past Better World Day events so you can learn more about how technology can be used to help nonprofits.

In this blog post, I will share both my photos and notes from Better World Day 2024. I want to encourage you to learn more so you can help spread the word about this great annual event that provides support to nonprofits! Please be sure to visit the BetterWorldDay.com website!

TOPIC: GAMIFICATION

Gamification, the integration of game elements and mechanics into non-game contexts, has emerged as a powerful tool across various industries. By harnessing the intrinsic motivations of play and competition, organizations can drive engagement, enhance learning, and foster desired behaviors among their audiences. Whether applied in education, healthcare, or workplace settings, gamification offers a dynamic approach to motivate and incentivize users, making tasks more enjoyable and meaningful. From earning points and badges to unlocking levels and competing on leaderboards, gamification taps into fundamental psychological principles to captivate and inspire participation.
