In our blog post, Cleveland Museum of Art's "Eyewitness Views: Making History in Eighteenth-Century Europe," we wrote that Stuart attended the Eyewitness Views Media and Influencer Exhibition Preview on February 24, 2018. Unfortunately, at the last minute, Julie was not able to attend. We knew she would enjoy this exhibition, so we planned to come to the show together at a future date.
We ordered our tickets to return on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, since the Cleveland Museum of Art's (@ClevelandArt) is open late -- until 9:00 pm -- on Wednesday nights to accommodate people like us who need an evening visit time.
Experiencing Eyewitness Views
While Stuart knew Julie would enjoy Eyewitness Views: Making History in Eighteenth-Century Europe, her enthusiasm for the show was even more than Stuart anticipated! It was fun to start the evening by having our photo taken in the Venetian gondola provided by the Cleveland Museum of Art.
As we entered the special exhibits hall, Julie became very engaged in reading all the informational panels for the paintings, and looking closely at the paintings. We used the audio tour, which is part of the admission price of the exhibit, and then looked for the historical details which were identified in the audio tour.
We spent a long time exploring Eyewitness Views: Making History in Eighteenth-Century Europe, and recommend taking enough time to really look at the paintings in detail. Stuart suggests that seeing the exhibit a second time will give you an opportunity to view the paintings with a fresh perspective.
Tweets & Retweets
We used our @sos_jr tweets and retweets to share our photos and a video of the evening. Please click on the Twitter photos to enlarge them so you can see some of the incredible detail in the paintings.
Particularly for this show featuring masters of the 18th century, you really must explore the exhibition in person. There is so much to experience that cannot be captured by a camera!

Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors
We mentioned in our March 11, 2018, Eyewitness Views blog post, that Kelley Notaro (@KelleyNotaro) and Caroline Guscott (@CarolineHerself) from the Cleveland Museum of Art's Communications Department told Stuart about the upcoming summer show, Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors (#InfiniteKusama - #infiniteMirrors), and how this show that is expected to sell out.
We were fortunate to get pre-sale tickets before they sold out!
We are looking forward to attending. Here is some information from the Museum's Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors web page about the show that will take place from July 7 to September 30, 2018, and how to get tickets:
Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors celebrates the legendary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s 65-year career. The exhibition spans the range of Kusama’s work, from her groundbreaking paintings and performances of the 1960s, when she staged polka-dot “Happenings” in the streets of New York, to her widely admired immersive installations and the US debut of her recent series of paintings, My Eternal Soul. Visitors have the unprecedented opportunity to experience seven of Kusama’s captivating Infinity Mirror Rooms, including Where the Lights in My Heart Go, exclusive to the exhibition’s presentation in Cleveland. Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors provides an unforgettable sensory journey through the mind and legacy of one of the world’s most significant artists.
The Kusama public presale has ended! Weekly ticket sales will occur on Mondays throughout the run of the exhibition beginning Mon, 7/16 at 9:00 a.m. Due to Labor Day (Mon, 9/3), that week’s ticket sale will occur on Tues, 9/4. Sales will take place online and phone only.

Resources We Shared In Our Previous Eyewitness Views Blog Post
While this exhibition can be enjoyed without knowing the history of the works of art, it features historical paintings that have interesting backstories. We list in our March 11, 2018, Eyewitness Views blog post some great resources - gallery guide, audio tour, book, magazine, and more. Please take a look before you go the the Museum.
We recommend reading what others have written about the exhibition, and where on social media to follow #EyewitnessCMA to learn more.
Also, read in our March 11, 2018, Eyewitness Views blog post about Stuart's connection to these paintings from when he studied in college, and about the smaller stories within the big stories of the paintings.

Thank you, Cleveland Museum of Art, for bringing this incredible show, Eyewitness Views: Making History in Eighteenth-Century Europe, to Cleveland!! It was great for Stuart to be able to visit the exhibition again with Julie. We hope to visit again if time permits before the exhibit closes on May 20, 2018.
