YPCLE: The Millennial Caucus

On Saturday, May 14, 2016, the Cleveland Young Professional Senate (@ClevelandYPS) held their fourth annual YPCLE: Young Professional Civic Leadership and Empowerment Conference at The City Club of Cleveland. This year, it was entitled YPCLE: The Millennial Caucus, and was part of the Greater Cleveland Caucus Series. This series is the result of a partnership between the Cleveland Young Professional Senate, the Cleveland Foundation (@CleveFoundation), The City Club of Cleveland (@TheCityClub), and others.

Here is the official description of the YPCLE: The Millennial Caucus:

Saturday, May 14 at 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM in EDT

The City Club of Cleveland
850 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44114

Details

Join the Cleveland Young Professional Senate at our fourth annual YPCLE: Young Professional Civic Leadership and Empowerment Conference. Cleveland YPS is proud to partner with the Cleveland Foundation and The City Club of Cleveland, to present this year’s conference as part of the Greater Cleveland Caucus Series.

YPCLE: The Millennial Caucus is a free nonpartisan event that brings together our city's civic leaders and young professionals to dig deeper on issues related to education; environment; health; housing & neighborhoods; inclusion, population and demographics; jobs and the economy; safety; as well as transportation and infrastructure. Through a combination of speakers, panels, small group discussions and networking, attendees will brainstorm concrete solutions and action steps to enhance our regional momentum.

The Millennial Caucus continues the conversation from the Greater Cleveland Caucus Town Hall event, held March 12, where non-profit organizations and Greater Cleveland residents partnered together to define new community priorities across key issues to the future of our region. The event will also utilize new data from “The Pulse,” a partnership between the Cleveland Foundation and Crain’s Cleveland Business that captures publicly-available data in one dashboard to highlight progress and opportunities to continue to enhance lives of Greater Clevelanders throughout our community.

Schedule of events to be announced soon.

This nonpartisan, nonpolitical event is free and open to the public. While geared toward young professionals (age 20-40), all are invited to participate. Join us to lend your voice to the conversation. Reserve your ticket today!

We hope you will join us on May 14 for #YPCLE16! Learn more about Cleveland YPS by visiting www.ClevelandYPS.org. Follow upcoming events and learn more about the year-long Greater Cleveland Caucus series by visiting www.ClevelandFoundation.org/Caucus.

I am so glad that I was able to attend this event, and pleased that some college students who I invited also attended. I look forward to learning how the ideas developed at the caucus will be become an action plan for our community.

My goal for this blog post is:

  • to give those who did not attend information on what occurred

  • to create a public repository for some of the information I gathered in relation to the event

  • to remind us of the work yet to be done

Keynote Panel

The YPCLE: The Millennial Caucus started with a panel discussion led by Cleveland Young Professional Senate president Emily Bacha (@EmilyBacha). I was very impressed by all the presenters:

After the panel discussion, I heard from others who attended that they were also very impressed. It is hard to convey in writing the positive atmosphere created by each of the speakers -- it generated a lot of excitement which hopefully will lead to further action by the attendees of the caucus.

We are fortunate that the City of Cleveland's TV 20 (@TV20Cleveland) shared the video of the panel discussion on YouTube:

Yes, this meeting is not the end, but the beginning.
