Mixing it Up on a Wicked Holiday Weekend!

December 1, 2017 - a new month full of possibilities! We started off the final month of 2017 with a very active weekend! The YouTube videos and our @sos_jr tweets/retweets below show the highlights of the weekend.

Friday Night, December 1, 2017 - MIX at CMA | Cleveland Museum of Art #MIXatCMA

We often attend the Cleveland Museum of Art's (@ClevelandArt - #MIXatCMA) MIX at CMA, so we decided to kick off this December weekend with Mix: Illuminate.

In addition to the music and dancing, we always enjoy taking the tours of the galleries offered during MIX. Thank you to Interpretation Specialist Stephanie Foster (@SFosterCLE) for sharing her knowledge as our tour guide.

As part of Stephanie's “Bright Ideas” tour, we viewed Monet’s Water Lilies, which is one of Julie's favorite pieces at the Cleveland Museum of Art. In 2015, we were fortunate to see a rare event -- all three panels of the Water Lilies triptych displayed together. Before the triptych was displayed at the 2015 Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse exhibit, the three panels had not been shown together in Cleveland since 1980. Learn more about this in the "Bloggers Tour - Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse" section of our blog post Bloggers Night Out in University Circle.

Saturday, December 2, 2017 - Holiday CircleFest | University Circle #HolidayCircleFest

We attend Cleveland's University Circle Holiday CircleFest (@InTheCircle - #HolidayCircleFest) every year, but learned via Laura DeMarco's (@LauraDeMarcoCle - @ClevelandDotCom) tweet that this year it would be a two-day event. Learn more in Laura's article: Holiday CircleFest expands to two days in University Circle, adds market

On Saturday afternoon, we found ourselves exploring the University Circle Holiday CircleFest on a very sunny and unseasonably warm day.

Saturday Night, December 2, 2017 - Wicked | Playhouse Square #WickedCLE

On November 21st, we learned from PlayhouseSquare's (@PlayhouseSquare) tweet that tickets for Wicked (@WICKED_Musical) in Cleveland (#WickedCLE ) would be available for a limited number of people through a pre-show lottery. The tickets were for box seats in the State Theatre for the low price of $25 each -- limit two tickets. Stuart told a friend who was interested in seeing the Wicked about this opportunity for great tickets at a great price.

We had enjoyed Wicked at PlayhouseSquare a few years ago, so when we noted that the show was closing in Cleveland the first weekend of December, we decided to take a chance with the ticket lottery.

We knew that even if we did not win the lottery, there was plenty to see in PlayhouseSquare, especially during the holiday season, with the Cleveland Playhouse (@ClevePlayHouse) Festival of Trees! (If you have not seen the Festival of Trees, you must go to the Cleveland Playhouse soon! We go every year.) If we did not win the chance to purchase the discounted tickets, we also planned to walk down to Cleveland Public Square (@CLEPublicSquare) to see the holiday lights and Cleveland Foundation (@CleveFoundation) skating rink.

Waiting in the theatre lobby -- not knowing what was ahead for our evening activities -- added to the excitement of the lottery drawing. When Julie's name was the second one drawn, we were very excited to have won!!!

After a fun dinner at Yours Truly Playhouse Square (@YoursTrulyTweet), we quickly toured the Cleveland Playhouse's Festival of Trees (we know we need to go back and explore some more) before taking our seats for the evening's performance of Wicked!

After the show, we drove through Cleveland Public Square to see the holiday lights.

Sunday, December 3, 2017 - Holiday CircleFest | University Circle #HolidayCircleFest

On Sunday, Julie was performing with the MusiGals at the South Euclid tree lighting ceremony, so she did not have time to go to the University Circle Holiday CircleFest (@InTheCircle - #HolidayCircleFest) for the second day. Stuart returned with our son, Michael, to see all the museums that were open for free on Sunday.
