On June 9, 2018, we had a great day that we want to share with you. This blog post includes 152 tweets from before and during the Cleveland Museum of Art's (@ClevelandArt) Parade the Circle, and from our evening activities on the Cleveland Metroparks' (@CleveMetroparks) waterfront. Writing this post reminds us of the fun we had, and we hope it encourages others to explore these and related activities in the future.

We used to attend the Cleveland Museum of Art's (@ClevelandArt) Parade the Circle together each year, but the last couple of years, Julie has attended with friends, since Stuart was not available. Stuart has missed this great event in recent years, since it occurs near National Trails Day® (@AmericanHiking - #NationalTrailsDay), which Stuart usually spends backpacking on the Appalachian Trail (@AT_Conservancy). This year, on June 9, 2018, we were able to attend the Parade the Circle together again in Cleveland's University Circle (@InTheCircle), and wanted to share our experience and photos from our @sos_jr tweets and retweets.

If you never attended Parade the Circle, it is a must-attend Cleveland event! Here is the Museum's official "About Parade the Circle" announcement explaining how the parade is celebrating its 29th year in 2018!

About Parade the Circle

June 9, 2018, Parade at noon, Circle Village 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

All parade workshops are held in the parade tent (11150 East Blvd., corner of Wade Oval Dr. and East Blvd., in the former CIA parking lot)

For 29 years, the Cleveland Museum of Art has been bringing this FREE signature summer event to Greater Cleveland. University Circle comes alive with color, music, and art for all ages. International and national guest artists join Greater Cleveland artists, families, schools, and community groups in a spectacular display of bright costumes, giant puppets, stilt dancers, handmade masks, and colorful floats. Circle Village, which includes activities, entertainment, and food, is presented by University Circle Inc.

2018 Parade the Circle: Cadenza, a flourish of individual creativity

Wade Oval

Parade at 12 noon

Circle Village 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Rain or shine

We recommend visiting the Museum's Parade History web page to learn about past parade themes, view past program books, and see the official slideshow of parade history photos on Flickr.

In the 29-year history of the parade, there has never been rain during the parade. This year, there were some sprinkles before the parade, but the record of no rain held, as the weather improved by the time the parade actually started. After the parade, at the Circle Village event, the skies brightened up even more, to create a sunny day.

Be sure to see the articles listed at the end of this blog, in the "What Others Say" section, with more information about Parade the Circle. Note that Cleveland Scene (@ClevelandScene) photographer Emanuel Wallace (@MannyWallace) caught a photo of Stuart at the end of the event.

The next three sections of the blog post show our @sos_jr tweets and retweets from Parade the Circle 2018!

On June 9, 2018, after an enjoyable time at University Circle (@InTheCircle), we ended the day with a visit to Cleveland Metroparks' (@CleveMetroparks) Wendy Park and Edgewater Park.

We had just read that day on Twitter about the renovations being done to the old Coast Guard Station at Wendy Park, by the Cleveland Metroparks. It is an incredible area now that the Cleveland Metroparks has taken over management, and continues to make major improvements. The addition of a new sailing program, in partnership with Cleveland's community rowing and sailing organization, The Foundry (@Foundry216), will bring life back to the old, abandoned Coast Guard Station.

Be sure to read The Foundry's history web page to learn about how their "partnership with Cleveland Metroparks enabled the creation of Cleveland's first community sailing center at the Historic Coast Guard Station at Whiskey Island ('The Station')." We have also included some other articles and videos about the Coast Guard Station renovation announcement in the next section of this blog post.

What Others Say

Here are other articles, blog posts, and videos about Parade the Circle and the renovations at the old Coast Guard Station. They give more details about these topics, and show how lucky we are in Cleveland to have these outstanding cultural and recreational resources!

In this blog post, we shared information about our journey on the 10 required trails and beyond!! Julie hiked 12 trails, and Stuart ended up completing 24 of the 25 trails on the list for 2017. If Stuart had a boat to complete the final water trail, he would have finished them all.
